Local Summit of Mamaroneck/Larchmont
Announces New Board Members
Three new members were voted to the board of directors of the Local Summit at its annual meeting: Sabrina Fiddelman, John Gitlitz, and Emmy-Lou Sleeper.
Ms. Fiddelman has lived in Larchmont since 1986. She is a member of the Tri-municipal Human Rights Committee and has been very active in the Mamaroneck Public Schools, including serving as president of the Mamaroneck Schools Foundation. She is currently Volunteer Coordinator of the College Information Center at Mamaroneck High School and was formerly in advertising account management.
Dr. Gitlitz has been a member of the board of the Hispanic Resource Center since 2000, and has served as its Chairman since 2006. He is an Associate Professor of Political Science at Purchase College, where he teaches courses on Latin America, Human Rights and Immigration. Dr. Gitlitz has been a resident of Mamaroneck for over 25 years.
Emmy-Lou Sleeper is a lifelong Larchmont resident and has served in many volunteer roles in the community. She has volunteered for the public schools, worked on the fair housing issue, and is now active with At Home on the Sound, a new Larchmont-Mamaroneck aging-in-place initiative. Ms. Sleeper is owner/partner of Burbank/Whittemore, now Julia B. Fee Sotheby’s International Realty, and is a Realtor Emeritus of the Westchester County Board of Realtors.
Retiring from the Summit Board are Shoko Iwata, Penny Oberg, and Mary McDonald, a founding member of the group.
In addition to voting on new members, the Summit Board discussed plans for its upcoming public programs. The last meeting before summer break was held on June 15th and featured presentations on local summer recreational opportunities for young people.
Other planned future topics include updates on flood mitigation efforts and the RADAR report on local teen drug and alcohol use, as well as presentations on immigration and access to local mental health services. The community is welcome to suggest ideas for other future topics by emailing the Summit Co-Presidents Mary Lee Berridge (gberr2@aol.com) and Elaine Chapnick (echapnick@verizon.net).
The Local Summit is a nonpartisan, informal community council that seeks to make Larchmont/Mamaroneck a better place to live for everyone. All are invited to its meetings, which are intended to inform and encourage an exchange of ideas and possible solutions.
