County Executive Tapped for Leadership Post on Statewide Association
POSTED: JANUARY 2012
County Executive Rob Astorino has been elected by his peers across the State to serve as 2nd Vice President of the New York State County Executives’ Association.
The county executives association is bi-partisan association comprised of the 17 county executives who, combined, serve over 8 million New Yorkers.
“We are pleased to have County Executive Astorino’s leadership on our executive team,” said Chautauqua County Executive Greg Edwards, president of the County Executives’ Association.
County executives from across the State met in Albany recently to discuss critical issues facing county governments. Chief among these issues were the federal, State and county budget deficits, sky-rocketing pension costs, the impact of the sluggish economy on unemployment and sales tax revenues, and the need for significant State mandate relief.
“While we all govern under unique local circumstances, all county executives face very similar and very real challenges. On behalf of our local taxpayers, we are working for mandate relief, pension reforms, reductions in State spending, economic growth and job creation. This association gives us all an opportunity to act collectively in a way that will benefit all of our counties and taxpayers,” said County Executive Astorino.
“We look forward to working with County Executive Astorino to carry the county agenda that will serve all of our counties and all of the people who live and work in New York,” said Stephen J. Acquario, executive director of the NYS County Executives’ Association.
