Dance for Parkinson’s Program - Scholarships Available

POSTED: JANUARY 2012

The Rye Arts Center is the recipient of a $5,000 special needs grant from ArtsWestchester toward their Dance for Parkinson’s Disease program. The money was awarded to provide scholarships in the program.

Dance for Parkinson’s Disease was launched in June 2011 and replicates the Mark Morris Dance Company’s award-winning Dance for PD® program. Dance instructors at The Rye Arts Center were specially-trained through The Mark Morris Dance Company in Brooklyn.

Dance has been shown to relieve Parkinson’s symptoms which can include tremors, stiffness of the limbs and trunk and impaired balance by helping reinforce the mind-body connection. The classes emphasize enhancing physical awareness and grace through modern, ballet and folk dance forms.
Scholarships available for eligible participants. For further information, contact Anne Fumasoli, Music School and Public Outreach Director at 914-967-0700, ext. 23.

This program is made possible, in part, by the ArtsWestchester with funds from Westchester County Government and its Board of Legislators.
